Google Changes the URL for Encrypted SSL Searches
Those of you using Google's SSL-encrypted search will need to change
your bookmarks. It seems that many users have been using the encrypted search
to get around content blocking filters in schools. However, when schools block
the encrypted search, they also block a number of other Google services, since
they have the same domain. As such, Google has changed the URL for encrypted
searches to
https://encrypted.google.com
to make it more
content-blocker friendly. If you type in the old address, you'll be redirected
to the regular Google page and your searches will not be encrypted, so be sure
to update your bookmarks and custom search engines if you want to keep your
activity secure. Google says it is looking for a long-term solution to change
the URL back to https://google.com
, though for now, the new URL is the only way to access it
