Thunderbird 3.1 Adds Faster Search, Quick Filter Bar, and Overhauled Importing

Windows/Mac/Linux: Mozilla has released a new version of Thunderbird, their popular email and messaging platform. Thunderbird 3.1 sports faster search, snappy quick filters, and improved import tools among other enhancements. Read on to learn more.

We love updates that arrive on schedule and Thunderbird 3.1 was released in June just as Mozilla projected earlier this year. If you're considering updating or jumping on the Thunderbird bandwagon here's what you have to look forward to:

§   Faster Search: They've overhauled the indexer in Thunderbird for even faster email mining.

§      Quick Filter Tool bar: You can quickly apply filters to your inbox and sub-folders including showing only unread, starred, tagged, and messages from people in your address book or with attachments.

§     Better Migration: The migration for 2.x to 3.0 was rocky for quite a few users. Thunderbird 3.1 sports a more polished migration tool that gives users more control over the process including which preferences and features from 2.x they'd like to keep active in their new installation.

§    Expanded Setup Wizard: The new automatic setup wizard has information for hundreds more ISPs and mail providers to make setup even easier.
